It has been 15 years now that we have lived in and enjoyed every moment we have spent in the cabin Brian built for us. My wife, Amy, and I took our time over roughly six months and interviewed 4 log cabin companies ( three in the pacific northwest and one in Canada) before we selected Edgewood Log Homes. Amy is an architect and we knew from the outset when we met him, that Brian would deliver an exceptional design. Here is what truly sold us on Edgewood.
First, Brian is an architect and understands craftsmanship like very few do in the log building industry. He is highly experienced with decades of handcrafting. What this told us is that the workmanship in our cabin would be exceptional. Amy fell in love with the Glass Forest and that truly sealed the deal. Edgewood was a larger investment for us but we decided to spend that money knowing that their “fit and finish” craftsmanship for quality was unmatched. None of the other companies even came close. Logs fit where interlocked- An unmatched level of care went into how each piece was cut and sanded- Brian and his team work incredibly hard to assure this level of perfection. On a personal note, Brian and the crew made the entire building experience enjoyable.
If we decide to build another cabin one day...we would hire Edgewood again, in a heartbeat.
“My partner and I purchased the project after the first developer had gone bankrupt. Not wanting to make the same mistakes they had, we sought out a more intelligent approach to building an upscale ski-in/out authentic full log commercial project. We sent word out for referrals, did internet research, and interviewed log home companies. An old friend of mine told me about a company in Idaho that had impressed him.
In hiring Edgewood to help us redesign and plan the project for success, we found a wealth of practical knowledge and expertise. Additionally their “hands-on” approach on-site proved invaluable when coupled with the very sophisticated and creative design horsepower they brought to the table. Their methods proved to not only be highly cost-effective, but very authentic and desirable to our future owners. Simply put, if we had not found Edgewood, we would likely have suffered the same fate at the first developer.”

"Our family long dreamed of a fishing cabin in the backcountry. Researching architects and log packages, Brian’s Edgewood Log Homes was at the top of the list for two reasons. The first reason was that his designs were reminiscent of classic western lodges also incorporating window elements to capture outside views. The second reason was that Brian’s log package approach limited shrinkage while utilizing big logs with hand-hewn characteristics. Working with Brian through final design and construction, we were pleased that he was always available and patiently answered our numerous questions. Ever diligent to the smallest details and finish selections, we grew to rely on his experience as we faced many choices to complete the project. When we started the project we hoped the final product would be a place to enjoy extended family time.
With Brian’s big logs, stunning views, and attention to classic details it is all that and more, it is spectacular. We thank Brian and his team for helping us realize our dream, one that will delight many of our generations to come."
“Our architect originally designed our condominium complex to blend in with similar projects in the area. After discovering Brian and his team, we asked him to take the plans and redesign them to create a more impressive visual impact. Our construction schedule was tight however Big Cabin met and exceeded all of our scheduling, budget and quality goals. Our sales were brisk and at a significantly higher price per square foot thanks to our relationship with Big Cabin.”
"I have known Brian Schafer and worked with his company Edgewood for more years than I can remember. At least 20, maybe 30. As a high-end custom home architect the single most important marketing feature I can have is happy clients with beautifully constructed homes who go out of the way, to refer me to everyone. The most successful projects are those that have what I call the perfect triad. A triad of Participation. Owner, Architect, Builder. An Owner needs to have confidence in both Architect and Builder. The Architect and Builder each need to give that confidence back to the Owner.
Schafer and Edgewood are experts at creating confidence. When they design their own projects they create wonderful designs and execute them brilliantly. When they construct one of my designs the end product Is better than the design I created. The architect knows about quality finish but the seasoned Tradesman knows far more than the Architect. Schafer is an expert at bringing out the best results. The Architect/Builder relationship is the most critical requirement for achieving a “Better Than Designed” end-product. In my opinion......It is the ONLY way!"

“Edgewood’s unique log building approach provided a beautiful wall system that was simple to put together and even allowed for changes on site. Everyone that has come into our home comments on the unbelievable joinery displayed in the handcrafted log work. In fact, our building inspector said, ‘that is the most beautiful log home in Summit County, Colorado.”
